What Is Social-Emotional Learning?
According to the data researched and published by the National University, social-emotional learning (SEL) is a method used to make children acknowledge their feelings and emotions, respect the emotions of others, and use these feelings to shape their interactions with other people. The courses and curriculum designed in this method specifically aim to make the children a better part of society.
To make the children mindful of their feelings and emotions and apply them to shape their behavior, SEL takes use of the following five principles provided by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). To impact the emotions of others around them, the children must first know themselves. They must be mindful of their feelings and emotions and have better confidence in themselves.

After realizing their thoughts and emotions, the children must be able to act on them in the best way possible and work efficiently towards their goals.
3. Knowledge Of Their Surroundings
Knowing their social interactions and learning the behavior of others allows children to work in social circles in a better way.
Children are taught to respect their interactions and relationships with others and to have relations with people belonging to diverse cultures.
Children learn to handle their tasks in a better way and to take responsibility for their actions in school as well as in the outside world.
Importance Of Social-Emotional Learning
The importance of SEL lies in the fact that it improves the learning and emotional abilities of the children, and also allows the teachers to focus on objective teaching to improve the individual skill set of the children. Here are some of the most important impacts of SEL:
1. Children undergoing SEL showed improved grades in their academic records. An average of 11 percent increase was observed in the children's performance in their academics.
2. Students are better equipped to deal with their problems and roadblocks in their lives in a better way. This is the reason why authorities are focusing more on giving children SEL on a wider scale.
3. Although the data quoting the success of SEL is meager, small-scale applications of the method have yielded positive results, and have shown children studying under this methodology as successful in their future classes and individual lives.
